Women in the Round 2025
EMBRACE • EMBODY • EMPOWER
February 8-15, 2025 | Troncones, Mexico

Let’s gather to embrace life-affirming experiences, embody self-care practices, and empower ourselves to act through courage, compassion, and deeper understanding. This compelling Women’s Retreat offers gems that we will uncover both in Troncones and after we return home.

This collective experience and journey of self-discovery takes place in the beautiful seaside town of Troncones, Mexico, and provides a golden opportunity to explore wellbeing through body-heart-mind centered practices.

We will also enjoy ecotours, boogie-boarding, beachcombing, poolside lounging, spa treatments, sun and surf and starry nights.

This retreat offers abundant opportunities to:

  • Embrace the whole Self and expand your view of self-care

  • Learn accessible ways to restore, maintain, and enhance your wellbeing

  • Explore wellness through collective wisdom, ancient arts (e.g., yoga and Jin Shin Jyustu), mind-body practices, dance, guided imagery, reflection in nature, and play!

  • Join in activities like kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, surfing, horseback riding, and an authentic Mexican cooking lesson

  • Greet the dawn with a daily Sunrise Reflection practice

  • Enjoy the local culture and beautiful people of the charming village of Troncones

  • Relax, invigorate, and create the retreat experience you desire

  • Cultivate resilience and gratitude—and take it home

  • Make new connections—inwardly and outwardly!

NOTE: Teachers can earn Yoga Alliance CEUs for this retreat.

The Philosophy of
EMBRACE • EMBODY • EMPOWER

EMBRACE • EMBODY • EMPOWER offers a roadmap for a journey of self-discovery and self-care that can be traveled with expert guidance or independently. It encourages action, involvement, exploration, and adventure. This three-pronged approach creates a feedback loop that propels us into widening circles of resilience, growth, and upliftment. Ultimately, empowering transformation awaits us.

EMBRACE → Embrace the process of self-exploration (sans self-censorship).
Be curious and open to insights and possibilities; test things out. Gravitate toward ideals and practices that resonate with you.

EMBODY → Internalize those ideals and practices that resonate on a cellular level; make them your own. Commit to a schedule of regular wellbeing practices and experiences. Be creative and spontaneous to learn more. Change it up when you need new inspiration.

EMPOWER → Watch as the full power and potential of your self-care practices are unleashed. Be empowered to discriminate, act, rest, and grow. Let resilience and transformation take root.

A POWERFUL WOMEN’S COLLECTIVE

A COMMUNITY OF WOMEN
Our intent is to create a community of women to come together to connect inwardly and outwardly. May we embrace who we are becoming and rediscover our innate power and wisdom. We use an inclusive definition of “woman” and “female.” Attendees only need to identify as women in a way that’s significant to them.

COME AS YOU ARE; NO YOGA EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
This retreat is for any woman who is curious and brave and willing to jump in and explore! No yoga experience is necessary. Whether you’re new to retreats and yoga or a long-time practitioner, our practices and discussions—from therapeutic and restorative, to functional movement for stability and balance, to invigorating vinyasa flow, to contemplative practices—are accessible to everyone. Do as much or as little as you’d like.

MAKE IT YOUR RETREAT (THERE’S LOTS TO CHOOSE FROM)
There are plenty of optional activities, massage and spa services, ecotours, and more to enjoy. You can create precisely the self-care retreat you want. If that simply means pool time, great food, and soaking up the sun in the company of other lovely women, it can be just that. If you want it to be that plus daily practices, dance, and more, it can be that, too. You choose!

TESTIMONIALS: What Our Retreaters Have Said . . .

I trusted that my soul would be renewed under your guidance on the beaches of Troncones. Your spirit and smile inspire me, as do your reflections on seeing ourselves as sacred beings with power to change ourselves and shine a light for others. I loved our group—it was the warmest most open group that I have experienced in a long while. You created a therapeutic space for people to bring healing to their wounded selves without having people even talk about their pain. As a therapist, I find this remarkable. I trust that everyone on the retreat felt deep healing to be happening in them—maybe walking on the beach at sunrise, or riding the ocean waves, or going down in the cave, or resting in yoga nidra or dancing to the music at dinner.
— Janice K.

In all my classes and retreats with you, I’ve felt supported and “seen” as an individual with unique needs and abilities. You’ve always created welcoming and safe spaces. At times you encourage and other times you provide space. I think we have all benefited from the richness of your teaching, bringing your personal knowledge and experiences to the classes.
— Linda M.

Participating in your retreats gives me access into parts of me that are not usually easy to find. I begin to expand, to discover, to root and grow. It happens in my body, in my head, and most importantly, in my heart. You create an environment that allows me to discover and explore ways I can be a better person.
— Wendy H.

SETTING: PLAYA TRONCONES and LAS VILLAS

THE VILLAS: Las Villas on Troncones Beach is a gorgeous oceanfront retreat 30 minutes north of Zihuatanejo on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. Each villa has multiple single- or double-occupancy bedrooms with private or shared baths, a shared kitchen, and common space with an open floor plan ideal for enjoying the ocean breezes. Take in breathtaking sunsets to the west and the Sierra Madre mountains to the east; take a dip and relax by the saltwater infinity pool; bask in the sun; lounge under the shade of the palapa; or walk, run and explore the beach, just steps away.

MEALS: Fresh and delicious brunch and dinner are provided daily, mostly on site at the Villas, with both vegetarian and fish or meat options. Meals feature authentic Mexican cuisine prepared by Las Villas’ gourmet cooks, who will do their best to meet special dietary needs. We also plan to have two group dinners at local restaurants with outdoor seating (included in retreat fee).

ACTIVITIES: In addition to our scheduled sessions, there is lots to enjoy, such as:

  • Walking, running, and exploring the 3-mile stretch of golden Troncones beach

  • Kayaking, hiking, and horseback riding

  • Boogie-boarding and swimming in the warm Pacific waters

  • Cooking lesson at Restaurante La Mexicana

  • Massage and spa services

  • Surf and stand-up paddleboard lessons

  • Local sea turtle sanctuary — watch the release of baby turtles into the ocean

THE TOWN: Just a short walk down the beach from Las Villas is Troncones, a small community with a few tiendas, beachfront restaurants, small hotels, B&Bs, cafes, and surf shops (some of the best surfing in Mexico is in this area). A few of our favorite spots are:

  • Lorenzo’s “Cocos Frios” stand just across the bridge on the way into town — don’t miss your chance to sit a spell and enjoy a refreshing drink from a freshly cut coconut!

  • The open-air market on Thursday morning at Tres Mujeres Boutique Hotel, where local artisans and food vendors offer their wares (just a few doors down from Las Villas).

  • Cafe Pacifico, creating some of the best coffee drinks and smoothies in town. They are also a full-service restaurant offering delectable breakfast, lunch, and dinner items.

YOUR RETREAT, YOUR WAY:
relax, reflect and renew on your own terms

There are a variety of practices and other activities scheduled daily. A sample day's schedule is shown here (schedule and session content may vary).

Please do not feel pressure to do it all. You may participate in as much or as little as you wish. This is your retreat, so make it what it needs to be for you. Allow yourself the time and space to relax and renew in body, mind and spirit. Go at your own pace. Honor your inner nudges and let them guide you toward an appropriate level of activity, striking a healthy balance between community time and personal time.

Let your senses soak in all this place has to offer. Feel the sand between your toes, the fresh breeze upon your face. Quiet yourself and sway to the rhythm of the waves. Breathe deep the sweet sea air. Take in the transcendent beauty of an ocean sunset or the mountain's majesty. Be still and let earth, sea, and sky nourish the soul!

  • United Airlines and American Airlines have the best itineraries, at least for trips originating in Pittsburgh. For travel originating in other cities, check United, American, Delta, and Alaska Airlines (good from the West Coast).

    • NOTE: American Airlines — If traveling from Pittsburgh (PIT), be aware of possibly very short connection times for connecting flights.

    • NOTE: United Airlines — From Pittsburgh (PIT), the United itinerary to ZIH is good on Saturdays, but not so good on other days.

    • NOTE: Connecting flights — Most, if not all, Delta itineraries connect through Mexico City, while United and American connect in U.S. airports and from there fly directly to Zihuatanejo (no intermediate stop in Mexico).

Alternate Airports for DepartureWe have at times found lower fares and shorter itineraries into ZIH (including some direct flights) from locations other than our home airport of Pittsburgh International (PIT). Airports to consider include Atlanta (ATL), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Cleveland (CLE), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Denver (DEN), Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) and San Francisco (SAN).
